GARNER, N.C. — Monday afternoon, families in Garner, North Carolina are cleaning up the mess from a tornado that touched down there.

The National Weather Service confirmed the twister was an EF-1 with max winds of 110 miles per hour.

WFMY News 2 has not received any reports of injuries.

Storms from the same system did so much damage in Tennessee that disaster relief teams from North Carolina-based Samaritan’s Purse traveled to help residents.

At least six people died, including young children, and 60 others went to the hospital when a tornado hit Montgomery County and Clarksville, near Nashville.

Resident Greg Chance said he knew someone who did not survive.

“That’s what hurts more than anything. It’s not that. All this material stuff can be replaced, but my friend can’t,” Chance said.

More than 50,000 people lost power in the state during the storm.

Crews from Samaritan’s Purse made it to Clarksville, TN on Monday, and are currently assessing the tornado damage.

Samaritan’s Purse, based in Boone, is an evangelical organization founded by Franklin Graham and regularly responds to natural disasters worldwide.

The agency said the staff is connecting with local churches and emergency agencies to determine the areas with the greatest needs.
