Texas firefighters deployed to battle CA wildfires
HOUSTON, TX – Texas firefighters are answering the call to help the California firefighters after the deadly wildfires have devastated California communities. Texas is now deploying 200 firefighters to the California.
At least 31 people have died so far and hundreds are unaccounted for. The Camp Fire in Northern California is just 25% contained, and the Woolsey fire in Southern California is just 15% contained. Sadly, dry conditions feeding the flames are expected to continue this week. The Woolsey Fire has scorched at least 83,000 acres, more than 170 homes.
Almost 10 local fire departments are on their way to Southern California to help fight the Woolsey Fire including East Tex, Needham, New Waverly, Baytown, Fulshear, Webster, Porter, and Galveston.
The local firefighters are being deployed for 2 weeks mostly to protect structures. Many of the firefighters have been deployed around Texas previously and once to California to help in other fires. The Texas firefighters should arrive to California Tuesday night and will be on the front lines starting Wednesday.
