Cajun Navy comes to NC to help Florence victims

WILMINGTON, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) – The volunteer group known as the United Cajun Navy is in Eastern North Carolina doing what they do best and that’s rescuing people stranded by water.
Men and women in the group turn their recreational boats into rescue vessels. So far, they estimate since Florence hit they have rescued more than 200 people.
The need is still great. Even though the rain has stopped the flood waters continue to rise. Part of the problem they are running into is some roads are washed out or covered with enough water making it unsafe to drive through but not enough to deploy boats.
Members of the group have a staging area set up and are ready to respond at a moments notice.
They use the app Zello to communicate and send audio messages especially when cell service can be spotty.
Volunteers say they wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s all about helping people.
The hit w/ the interview was 6:15ish? After David. I didn’t get his last name.
