Fair Bluff residents finally have meetings for financial assistance from Hurricane Matthew

FAIR BLUFF, NC (WECT) –

The Adams Company will be holding one-on-one meetings with residents in Fair Bluff Wednesday to talk about federal hazard mitigation money from Hurricane Matthew.

The Town of Fair Bluff hired the company to help residents and had scheduled initial meetings with residents the Wednesday before Florence swept through the area. The meetings were rescheduled ahead of Florence and it’s a coincidence they are now happening after more flooding to the area.

These meetings come after Gov. Roy Cooper visited Fair Bluff in August. According to the governor, 71 properties in Fair Bluff have been approved for about $8.5 million in hazard mitigation money.

The meetings are solely for people who filed for assistance after Hurricane Matthew. The company will review the choices residents have, whether it be:

a buyout of the home and getting paid pre-Matthew value;
an elevation of the existing house two feet above flood level;
or reconstructing homes damaged beyond elevation – tearing it down and building to new standards.
