Parts of southeast Texas under tornado watch until 11 a.m.
Several southeast Texas counties are under a tornado watch until 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Some of the counties included in the watch are Brazoria, Galveston, Fort Bend, Harris, Chambers and Liberty.
Strong thunderstorms and frequent lightning are expected, and winds over 30 mph are possible. The weather is capable of producing brief tornadoes with little warning, meteorologists said.
Much of the activity around 5:30 a.m. was centered around Friendswood, according to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office.
And heavy rain is still hitting the area, with Montgomery County, northern Harris County, northwest Fort Bend County, Northwest Liberty County and Waller County under a flood advisory until 8 a.m.
By tonight, the skies will be mostly clear, according to the National Weather Service. Highs are at 72 degrees, with lows at 50 degrees.
