Students affected by Hurricane Harvey in Corpus Christi, Kingsville and other areas may receive much-needed help.

The Texas A&M University System on Wednesday announced a $1 million grant from the State of Qatar Harvey Fund and Rebuild Texas Fund would support scholarships for students affected by the Category 5 hurricane in August 2017, according to a news release from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.

Scholarships will help fund tuition, fees, books and living expenses. The grant will be shared between Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University – Kingsville, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M University, the release states.

“Most students did return to the universities, but many withdrew and even those who did return to their studies have continued to struggle with personal and financial challenges preventing their success,” the release reads. “Many of these impacted students were from economically disadvantaged environments, further complicating their recovery.”

The universities found many students are trying to rebuild their lives.

Students who want to be considered for scholarships can apply online at www.harveyhelp.tamucc.edu.
