HOUSTON – Two years after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, the city of Houston received a $130 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday. FEMA reimbursed the city for its emergency protective measures after Harvey’s landfall. The money will help cover the cost when city officials extracted water, removed building materials, towed city vehicles and cleared mud and silt from several public facilities that were damaged by Harvey’s impact. After many environmental disasters, scientists test the water and soil to look for unsafe chemicals. But with Hurricane Harvey, researchers took an extra step and decided to test people. More than 150 Houstonians participated in a Oregon State University, Baylor College of Medicine and UTHealth study, by wearing high-tech wristbands that can detect over 1,000 chemicals. Tropical Storm Dorian strengthened again Monday morning with sustained winds of 60 mph with gusts of 70 mph as it moves west toward Barbados.
