Florida continues its preparations for Hurricane Idalia’s expected Wednesday morning landfall. CBS News Miami reporter Ted Scouten is off the Florida mainland in Key West, where the storm is already being felt.

If the Idalia wreaks enough havoc, the name could be retired from the hurricane name list – following a trend for hurricane names that start with “I.”

NASA shared video from the International Space Station as it flew over Hurricane Idalia, which was heading toward Florida on Tuesday. Idalia is expected to grow into a Category 3 hurricane before making landfall on Wednesday. (There is no audio on this footage from the space station.)

As people on Maui report coughing up “black stuff” and blood, one resident says, “Come back 20 years later, 10 years later, and you’ll see how many native people are sick.”

The water level could reach as high as 15 feet in some areas if storm surge coincides with high tides.
