VALLEY VIEW, Texas — A WFAA crew covering the aftermath of an EF-2 tornado that hit Cooke County Saturday found a young pup among the debris.

Lost in the wreckage of a home, a wandering dog was spotted sniffing through the debris near J L Drive and Green Meadow Drive in Valley View. A neighbor who lives on Green Meadow told WFAA they will look after the dog until its owner claims it.

More than 200 homes and buildings were damaged after the tornado tore through the area, so finding the pup’s owner could be daunting as some residents are getting their first look at the devastation Sunday morning.

At least seven people were killed, and more than 38,000 people are without power across Denton, Cooke and Collin Counties., Governor Greg Abbott said in a Sunday evening news conference.

A shelter is now open to help victims of the storms access, shelter, food and water as many of them prepare to rebuild their lives. The American Red Cross is in Valley View, Texas providing assistance at First Baptist Church, 503 N. Lee St. Valley View, TX.
