Tropical Storm Ophelia is bringing wet, windy weather to the East Coast. The Carolinas and Virginia will bear the brunt of the storm. Weather Channel meteorologist Kelly Cass has more.

Tropical Storm Ophelia strengthened Friday evening as it approached North Carolina and Virginia. It is expected to bring heavy rains and powerful winds to the Mid-Atlantic Coast this weekend. Meteorologist Alex Wilson from The Weather Channel has the latest forecast.

The storm that’s been brewing off the East Coast is now officially Tropical Storm Ophelia, and it could bring coastal flooding from the Carolinas north to New England. CBS News senior weather and climate producer David Parkinson is tracking the storm.

What could soon be Tropical Storm Ophelia is moving closer to the U.S. East Coast, the National Hurricane Center said, and a tropical storm warning is in effect from Cape Fear, North Carolina, to Fenwick Island, Delaware. CBS News Baltimore’s Janay Reece has an update on how locals there are preparing for the storm. And Lynette Charles, meteorologist for The Weather Channel, has a forecast for where the storms could be most severe.

The National Hurricane Center says a storm off the eastern U.S. will bring tropical storm conditions to the coast of North Carolina.

Since 2016, wildfire smoke in the U.S. has reversed roughly 25% of air quality improvements made from the 2000 Clean Air Act, according to a new study published in the journal Nature. That figure doubles to roughly 50% when looking specifically at the impact on many western states.
