HOUSTON – Wednesday marks 10 years since Hurricane Ike slammed into Galveston with winds of near 110 mph. The storm decimated Bolivar Peninsula was decimated by the 12-14 surge that was pushed ashore. The tide rose as high as 21 feet at Eagle’s Pass in Galveston Bay. Four firefighters from the Houston Fire Department have been sent to North Carolina in response to Hurricane Florence, and one Houston firefighter has been sent to Hawaii to help with Tropical Storm Olivia.  The firefighters are members of Texas Task Force 1, an emergency response team tased with urban search and rescue.
