People fled for higher ground Sunday night as creeks rose in Cheraw and rural Chesterfield County, where dams were being battered and at least one was thought to be in danger of failure. STEDMAN, N.C. — Some Los Angeles County firefighters are in North Carolina helping with rescue efforts for Hurricane Florence. The Union County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning that emergency workers are resuming the search for Kaiden Lee-Welch, a one-year-old boy swept away in rushing water Sunday. Donations for animals displaced by Hurricane Florence are being accepted at the North Carolina State Fair Grounds located at 1025 Blue Ridge Boulevard in Raleigh.
